Description

The Dragonfly Percussion Resonance Series Large 2 Sided Gong mallet features a soft ball shaped core covered in felt on one side while the other is covered in plush fuzzy material. The ¾″ thick handle is 10.5″ long, a little shorter that the other mallets in the series. This allows for a very balanced natural feel. The Large is the softest mallet in the series thus bringing out the lower frequencies and allowing for a slow rich blossoming of sound.

This 2-sided mallet is the ultimate general-purpose mallet for gong performance in a sound healing modality. The harder side responds quickly and effortlessly on gongs of all sizes, and draws out a broad spectrum of overtones. The soft side elicits a rich, full-bodied sound with lots of low end frequencies. It has enough mass to activate even your largest gongs, but is light enough and balanced in such a way that it is nimble in the hand and responsive at all dynamics.

The Dragonfly Percussion Resonance Series was developed for sound therapy applications with input from Benjamin Irons and Yogi Mehtab Benton. The combination of experience and test runs have created a series that maximizes the sound potential of a wide range of gongs.

This mallet has a great feel for me, very nicely weighted, and the double sided head is better than I imagined. With the softer side you can get rich lows without too much of a "pong" sound from the gong. It's not going to be as plush and heavy as a 355 Oli Hess, and so far after playing with it for about a week I noticed that it requires a bit more awareness to consistently bring out the deepest sounds from gongs between 30-40 inches. I love the overall sound of the soft side. For the harder side it can awaken the mid range frequencies in the gong, much more percussive, activating, and louder. Excellent mallet. With a simple flip / twist you can augment your sound without having to pick up a different mallet. Very recommended.
