Description

This piece was written for a solo performance given by the composer. It may, however, be performed by an ensemble if so desired.

Setup:

  • Five wooden objects, or "found sounds" with little, or no, resonance.
  • Five resonating metal objects suspended.
  • Large tom-tom with superball.
  • Large kick drum with a wind-gong hanging in front of the batter head.
  • Toy monkey that clashes cymbals. Claves or rimshots can also be an option. Ratchet (on stand or attached to stick tray etc.)
  • Two metronomes - placed left and right side of performer. The metronomes should preferably be mechanical for visual effect and amplified if necessary. When started simultaneously there will most likely be a slight difference in timing which is encouraged. The increasing distance between metronomes is a source of tension that is the desired effect. However, digital metronomes can also be used or the metronome parts could also be played in an ensemble performance, for instance on claves or woodblocks.

-The audio file is available from the publisher consisting of field recordings. Should be played on a small speaker on or off stage.

Duration ca. 9 min.

- Craig Farr 2023
