Description
The Concerto for Marimba & Orchestra, Op. 148 was composed by Czech-American composer Tomas Svoboda in 1994-1995, and commissioned by the Oregon Symphony for then principal percussionist Niel DePonte, who encouraged Svoboda to write the work and gave its premiere performance. The recording by DePonte with the Oregon Symphony under conductor James DePreist earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance with Orchestra in 2003, one of the few Grammy nominations ever received for a marimba performance. This edition is the full score, published by Thomas C. Stangland Co.
The concerto runs approximately 26 minutes and is scored for marimba soloist with a full orchestra including strings, brass, winds, timpani, harp, celesta, piano, and two additional percussionists. A pocket score is available separately (TCS-70), and a piano reduction score and marimba part are available as Op. 148a (TCS-68). Orchestral parts are available on rental from the publisher.
